It doesn’t taste great, but it’s fast acting and alleviated the worst of my symptoms, especially the bloating. In combination with the super cleanse tablets for constipation, it’s revolutionized how I feel on my bad days.
Ultimately I’ve had to cut out gluten which has resulted in 99% of my original symptoms disappearing but I’ll continue to use this on those days where I’ll eat something that I didn’t know had gluten or didn’t sit well with me for other reasons.

My symptoms were constant uncomfortable burping, and a sensation in my throat. Feeling very full after a good sized meal. Im taking Amitriptyline and protonix which help like 25%. A few weeks taking this and my burps are small and not uncomfortable anymore. Not as much throat clearing. I like to take a glass of it before bed so it marinates by itself. Smells a lot like alcohol, so you might want to mix it.
In fact, it worked great for me after about a couple days. I used to sometimes be keeled over in pain from an unknown ailment after a single cup of water, but now curry and sushi is fine with only the slightest twinge of pain.
Anyways, I digress lol. This stuff works. Is it a miracle? Meh… Is it something I will continue to take? Until I find something better, definitely yes.
People give false hope on these reviews, I’m not going to tell you that this will make your dreams come true, and that you will feel better than ever. However, it will definitely reduce the pain you feel, and it will settle your stomach when your are feeling like crap. This supplement alone simply isn’t enough to me…
Pair this, zinc carnosine, quercetin, and peppermint gum (my favorite is Orbit). That will mask the pain. For me that is about 50% of my 70-75% improvement. The remaining amount is from amitriptyline.
If you have FD it will take a lot of different options to reduce the pain. Now I will say this improvement is assuming I am living my typical day to day life without too many extenuating circumstances. Stress is certainly something that needs to be addressed as well. With stress your entire body presents an inflammatory response. So please take that into consideration.
I have spent countless hours researching, crying in pain, and bothering others with my symptoms. So many people try to bring false hope and tell you there really is a silver bullet. That simply isn’t how life works. Hope is a form of torture that we put ourselves through. Hope is operating under the assumption that everything is awful in the present moment. Hope is an intangible wrung you try to grab on to, in order to lift yourself out of misery.
When people write reviews on supplements like these. They write them at their highest moment, because for a brief moment their pain is reduced, or gone completely. So they feel this incessant need to share with others. What people often leave out, is the next day after they went too hard on trigger foods. Or when they decided to test their limits and went back into another episode of pain.
I just have to be real with you. I wish I had a reality check left in random places as I went through my research to realize the goal is to feel healthy. The goal is to reduce the pain as much as possible so you can at least enjoy some of the things you used to be able to enjoy. If you keep chasing the goal of being back to 100% you are setting yourself up for failure.
Be kind to yourself and your body. Life is so short, try to cut yourself some slack. It truly is exhausting to chase your perception of the way things should be.
Flavor is not to bad and I mix 20 drops with a glass full of water. Provides almost instant relief where other products can't help or take many hours.
I really like the flavor. It’s mild and very pleasant, reminds me of a liquid valerian root.
i slowly built up my dose (i’m sensitive baby tummy) and now i take 10 drops in a bit of water that i sip before and throughout my meal. 20 drops 3x a day is the dose, but meals with gastroparesis are tiny and frequent, so i tend to take less drops more frequently without exceeding the maximum daily dose to accommodate my needs.
flavor wise, it’s medicine so i literally could not care less how it tastes but since they made me rate it i put three stars. the average person wouldn’t mind it as much as i do, i just personally cannot stand licorice At All lol but even still i’ve never tolerated the taste of something with licorice as much as i have this, so i’m impressed on that front too.
After just one dose, the never ending pain subsided. The incidents of bloating, pain, constipation and nausea after eating has reduced.
I suffered for 8 months until I did my own research and found out about this product. If you are experiencing these symptoms, please try Ibergast... don't suffer like I did.
This arrived on my doorstep this morning as I was leaving for work and I tore the box open in my car and downed 20 drops. I've continued doing that for the rest of the day - both before food and any time my stomach started making those horrible gurgling noises and felt hot. To be fair I've used those 20 drops more than 3x today but now that it's before bed I've just had my first normal bathroom experience in months. My stomach feels content and symptoms have lessened throughout the day. I'm about to order another bottle.
I really can't say enough about Iberogast - I am still amazed by this non Medicinal remedy that poses absolutely no possible side effects that come w/medication.
Thank God for finding me the right Doctor and the right treatment for my incurable, lifelong illness. I am truly grateful.

Then, I seemed to recover a bunch, the gas, bloating, GERD, stomach cramps eased up.
Then the GERD seemed to return but the digestive enzyme and HCL didn't seem to help. So I went back and dumped 3 drops of this stuff on my tongue and the GERD went away in about two minutes.
So it means I've recovered enough that my digestion works but it doesn't start without a little help.
Why! That's normal for someone my age ; )
Why the drops on the tongue? The tongue has the largest concentration of the bitter receptors. Activating the bitter receptors activates digestion. But you have these receptors all over your mouth, through the throat (and your lungs) and all the way through out the other end of your digestive tract. You could swallow these drops in a pill and they would work fine.
I was taking omeprazole (a PPI) to heal damage in the esophagus from reflux, and but I noticed terrible acid if I missed a pill. I read up and learned about acid rebound after quitting PPIs (my gastroenterologist said & did nothing to prevent it). This is where your acid production goes up a lot - like it was trying to compensate for the meds - and you end up with more heartburn than before you started taking them. So, when my issue was healed & I wanted to quit, I tapered down the dose over months, all while doing all the non-medicine things to avoid heartburn (elevate the head of the bed, small portions, no problems foods, etc.) But still, I got the dose down to a certain point and somehow just couldn't keep it under control, anyway.
Studies indicate it takes about 3 months to completely get back to normal acid levels after quitting PPIs. I knew it would drag out if I didn't just stop right away, but I needed an alternative. So, I did more googling and read about Iberogast and a few other things that studies had shown were helpful to people with reflux and with acid rebound from quitting meds. There were 130 articles on PubMed about Iberogast, and it seems like they're all very positive.
To be honest, even without the articles, I probably would have tried, I was in such misery.
Of the new things I tried, Iberogast has had by far the most dramatic effect in stopping the acid. I follow the instructions - 3x per day with meals I add 20 drops in my drink (sometimes I let it just drip 20 times, but if I'm feeling ill I might shake out 20 squirts). I immediately feel better after drinking it and I was able to completely quit the PPI and the H2 (Pepcid), and now I have more trouble-free days than not.
I also found that drinking aloe juice was helpful - it's a base & is soothing - and I often add my Iberogast to aloe juice. I also like to add it to an herbal tea I enjoy that contains some licorice. I generally hate the taste of licorice & avoid it in tea, but I tried this flavor anyway (Twinings Pomegranate & Raspberry) and liked it...and found it helped counter an acidy stomach. I'm assuming it's the licorice, which Iberogast has. I'd also point out that as much as I hate the taste of licorice, the Iberogast is tolerable, especially when added to something tasty. So, I can recommend the tea & the aloe juice for anyone with similar issues.
And I highly recommend the Iberogast for reflux / acid stomach.
As for quitting Iberogast eventually, I read in at least one of those studies that there's not the same rebound effect (and no side effects). I'm optimistic that eventually I won't be needing them every day, but I think I'll always have a bottle on hand & I feel much better about it than the PPIs.
Taste wise, it is a little like a tea with a slight licorice taste. At first, I didn't like it much, but I got use to it. I find it best just to put it in cool water to drink it. 20 drops into a cool glass of water.
Update: After a year my stomach issues have gotten much better. Now, I only take it after a meal that is hard to digest, like has more fats or raw vegetables.
It is an excellent product.
I take this product first thing in the morning (5-6am), 12pm and again at 6pm and also as needed for any gastro symptoms. The most I have taken this product is 4 times in one day.
However, last time I had a bad stomach ache (cramps), I obviously ran out of it and was super upset since I had no idea where I could get it from in Chicago. Thankfully, there is Amazon! Went online, found it right away with same day shipping and was able to pick it up before 8pm the same day - what a life saver!!
This is the only thing that helps me when I have stomach ache, cramps, feel sick/nauseas (due to bad food) or even weather changes! I’m very sensitive to weather changes (hello migraine..) but this helps a lot! Trust me, I have tried a lot, but I always come back to iberogast!
I can highly recommend this to anyone who has ever had stomach ache or cramps and prefers natural medicine rather than those chemical ones that are just “upsetting” your stomach more!
I take the Ibergast twice a day . Take only 10 drops at a time, see how your gut reacts first before you take a full dose. I only use half the dose and get amazing relief. I can feel my gut start relaxing within minutes. It's a tincture in alcohol so it doesn't taste great.
I have also used Iberogast more than a few times when I have been less than judicious in my food selection. It seems to work for me, too, which is unsurprising since it's meant for humans. Iberogast has a taste and odor that I find similar to Angostura Bitters
Angostura Aromatic Cocktail Bitters, 4 oz
, so yeah, I've made a few Manhattan cocktails using Iberogast. (I shouldn't have to explain that since I've made more than one, the taste was pleasing to me.)
Iberogast delivers its promises to both my cat and me. I've searched the web and read various papers regarding it, and there seems to be no cumulative effects, overdose effects, or drug interactions. There might be allergic reactions to some of the ingredients. I found good information by Googling "iberogast filetype:pdf." My cat, who, like me, is not a doctor, and therefore not giving medical advice, gives it two claws-up.
UPDATE 12/4/16: Upgraded star rating from 4 to 5 after 4 months of use. I have more energy, see less "old" food in my vomit (TMI apologies), so I do now believe this product helps as part of an improved motility plan. I also take a probiotic and have started adding in FODMAP food groups under a dietician's advice.
Initial Review:
The TMI Section:
I've been using iberogast for nearly 2 months per advice from my dietitian. I tesed positive for SIBO, have a large hiatal hernia, GERD, and was diagnosed with gastroparesis and IBS-D. I am on long-term FODMAP elimination, that is, months, instead of the typical 2 week period. Curiously (to my gastroenterologist), I've also been vomiting 10 to 40 times daily since February 2016 (9 months as of this writing). It starts an hour or two after eating, and I drink a lot of water once it starts to avoid dehydration, hence the high number.
Warning About The Ingredients:
Iberogast is an herbal supplement with a long list of ingredients. Please look at the Q&A section above where someone has kindly listed the ingredients. You may have an allergy or sensitivity and need to be careful. Iberogast also has a high 30% alcohol content. Of course, no one is going to become inebriated from a 3 times daily dose. But Friends of Bill should know this could be a trigger. The scent alone is very whiskey-like, and the flavor is much like (a very bad) Scotch if you don't use enough water.
How Best To Mix:
Don't tap out the 20 drops first and then add water. This can create a foam that gets left behind in the glass, and you'll be wasting the product. Add to at least 1/4 cup already-poured warm water.
Effectiveness?
Gross-out alert .... I do see some effectiveness in digestion because I have seen the consistency of my vomit change: smoother with less chunks, which to me means the food is getting further down along the small intestine. But for actual motility? Not so much. I still see food particles that I ate up to 12 hours earlier. (Please note update above.) On the other end, so to speak, I have practically no constipation and have 2 or 3 extra hours each day to do more worthwhile things than sit around, if you (wink, wink) know what I mean.
Seriously, if you are a FOB's, please do not underestimate the alcohol trigger possibility just because the actual quantity is so small. It's the scent and flavor that can get you.
Iberogast was originally manufactured in Europe (not sure if there is an American division or if it is imported from Europe) and has a long history of use there.
Product can be taken with meals or only in the evening before going to bed. I have tried both and am currently taking before bedtime. As is typical of herbal preparations, it is preserved with alcohol which may be a concern for some. Mixed with small amount of water, taste is not unpleasant at all -- believe me, some herbal preparations can taste downright nasty -- this product ranges from neutral to mildly pleasant.
It's not a magic cure all, but if your symptoms indicate that you need a prokinetic product, I would recommend trying this before the prescription drugs. You're likely going to need to do many other things to help restore normal digestive function in addition to taking this product, such as a special diet and modifying food intake behavior (don't eat too much at one time or don't eat too fast).
Some reviewers indicated that Iberogast didn't work for them -- there are many ways digestive systems get out of whack and these reviewers may not have needed a prokinetic product.
I don't have a big constipation issue so I can't say if this would help with that. I recently finished SIBO treatment and they said it was likely caused by slow gut motility (a result of my bad thyroid) & could reccur if I don't improve my motility. So I take this with at least one meal a day. I feel like I digest more completely- I think it stimulates more digestive juices? And it makes me regular. I do sometimes skip it and have a bit of difficulty with things getting too solid in there. When I take this- that never happens. It is subtle though. It definitely doesn't cause diarrhea, at least not at the recommended dosages. I enjoy the taste personally. Some say it's like cough syrup but I disagree. It has a lot of herbal flavours but the dominant flavour reminds me of red jujubes. I put the drops in an ounce of water and if you like the taste you can sip, but if you hate it, you could knock that back in the blink of an eye then rinse with a sip of juice or water. Don't worry about the taste. Also it doesn't linger on the palate or come backup in burps (it prevents burps in fact) so once you swallow you are done.
Anyway maybe like me you will think it's tasty.
A bottle is pretty small for the price but that's OK- a serving is so tiny! And I do often use 1/2 - 2/3 the suggested amiunt & that works for me. The bottle lasts me about 5-6weeks. And it makes my belly healthy. Totally worth thirty bucks!
Well, I have purchased it many times and always keep it on hand. It is the perfect remedy for almost any stomach ailment I have come across from mild indigestion to bloating to nausea to nervous stomach to one of my major GASTROPARESIS flair ups. I am RX free and have finally gotten my life back.
The packaging is easy to work with, though I typically remove the dropper insert and just pour it into the cap to measure. The taste isn't unpleasant but it's something I wouldn't drink for fun. Kind of like an herbal tea. Tastes the best with water or tea.
After drinking a dose, I usually feel relief in 15 minutes. No matter my stomach ailment.
One pro caution, it can sometimes cause a dumping effect that can have you running to the bathroom... But as someone who has stomach ailments on the regular, worth it worth it worth it.
